We have two important pieces of news to share with you today.

The first is that we are officially changing our name to SPM Financial, effective December 7th, 2020.

Along with this change, we’re thrilled to be moving our office to a new location: Suite 19 - 530 Oxford St. West at Wonderland. We will keep you notified as soon as we can safely welcome you into our new space!

Announcing our New Home and New Name | SPM Financial

Both changes are about better serving you – our clients – now and in the future.

When we – Mike, Tim and Keith – founded Sheffar Potter Muchan 20 years ago, we were considered by many to be “mavericks” in financial services.  A true entrepreneurial partnership like ours was not at all common in an industry heavily populated with large financial companies and sole practitioners.  What we established together – working for our clients, with our clients – was rare.  We believed in what we were doing as partners, and even put our names on the building.

Both our name and our current office at 362 Oxford have served us well for the better part of these past two decades.

  • We’ve been fortunate to see our business grow steadily – thanks to the many business owners, families and professionals that have entrusted us in helping them manage their risk and grow their wealth.
  • We established a subsidiary company, SPM Benefits, specifically focused on supporting companies in southwestern Ontario with quality, unbiased advice and solutions to their employee benefits and pension plan needs.
  • Along the way, our team has grown to 29 people to better serve our clients.
  • And we’ve also been proud members of the London community – giving back to a number of organizations that offer a better life for the people of our city, including El Sistema, Fanshawe College, Kids Country Club, the London Community Foundation and the Salvation Army Centre of Hope, among many others.

This next chapter of our business is a natural next step

We’ve always prided ourselves in supporting clients as they prepare for the orderly transitions of their businesses, families and lives.  And so we’re doing this for ourselves too – the proverbial “eating our own cooking.”   As founders of the firm, we’re not going anywhere any time soon.  We’ll still be involved as we always have.  At the same time, there will come a time when we each back away from the more active roles we hold now.

In fact, we’ve been preparing this way for some time.  Younger partners, owners and advisors – Matt Churchill, Tim Faught – have already taken on greater leadership responsibilities in our firm, as they should.  They, along with Sara La Gamba, Chad Dawson, and others, are SPM Financial’s future.

Hence our new name.  It’s both a nod to our past (and the legacy of our founders) and a bridge to our future – one we expect to endure for a long time in serving multiple generations of our clients going forward.

We’re especially looking forward to welcoming you to SPM Financial’s new office.  It’s a custom-build at 530 Oxford St. West – complete with expanded room for our growing team, enhanced (and more comfortable) meeting space, ample and accessible parking, even an outdoor patio for a more casual meeting environment when circumstances (and weather) permit.  Plus, the new office fronts onto beautiful, secluded green space too.   While COVID slowed down some of our construction over the past few months, we’re still on track to move into the new office on December 7th.

Here’s what’s important for you to know in the meantime:

There is no impact on you.  None of your key contacts or relationships change in any way.

Our day-to-day operations remain unchanged.

SPM Benefits remains our company purely focused on employee benefits and pension plans.  There is no change to the SPM Benefits name or company.

Our forms, applications and marketing materials will transition from Sheffar Potter Muchan to the SPM Financial brand in the weeks ahead.

Most of all, you’ll find it much easier to find parking at – and easy access to – our new office.

These plans have been long in the making and we’re pleased to announce them to you now.

As always, we appreciate your business and are grateful for the trust that you have placed in us.  We look forward to continuing to assist, guide and protect you and your future generations through the various phases of your lives, your families and your businesses,

With our humblest thanks,
